UCMed Kicks Off Nutrition Month 2022
The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) has officially started the Nutrition Month celebration with several activities last Monday, July 4, 2022.
This year’s celebration is anchored by the theme, “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon!”
UCMed’s Medical Director, Dr. Armando Tan, highlighted the importance of nutrition improvement during his speech on the opening program of Nutrition Month.
Dr. Tan also reminded the attendees of eating healthy food.
“There’s an old English proverbs that would say, ‘Don’t dig your own grave with your own knife and fork.’ It means if you pollute your body with unhealthy food, you hasten your death,” said Dr. Tan.
Dr. Mary Karen Woolbright, Clinical Nutrition Doctor, also gave her insights on the gravity of proper nutrition, especially for those admitted patients.
Dr. Woolbright said patients would have better outcome and recovery with early and proper nutrition intervention.
During the event, the Dietary Department and Diabetes and Nutrition Center (DNC) provided free nutritional and dietary advice.
Various representatives from pharmaceutical companies also had their exhibit and displayed their respective products. Those who joined include The Green Table, Abbott Nutrition, Nestlé Health Science Philippines, Unilab Westmont, GX International Inc., and Fresenius Kabi Philippines Inc.
Several food concessionaires operating in UCMed also participated in the activity by providing seven percent discount and giving treats to their customers. Among those who participated were Entrée, Friedshack, Rice Break, Foodlocker, and Chan-Rey Convenience Store.
UCMed’s Hospital Administrator, Mr. Stephen Tan, has extended his gratitude to the pharmaceutical companies and food tenants for participating during the event.
For the whole month of July, too, the Dietary Department will give healthy treats to the admitted patients.
The Nutrition Month celebration in UCMed will culminate on July 22.
