UCMed Celebrates Nurses’ Week

The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) celebrated its first Nurses’ Week on November 21-25, 2022.

UCMed’s Nursing Service Department (NSD) together with the Continuing Nursing Education Section (CNE) organized this week-long celebration to honor and value the sacrifices of nurses who have become modern day heroes.

This year’s UCMed Nurses’ Week celebration is anchored with Philippine Nurses Association- Cebu Chapter’s (PNA) theme, “Filipino Nurse: Transform to lead, Committed to Care”.

The NSD and CNE launched and prepared a set of activities that brings out camaraderie, competence and excellence of every UCMed nursing staff.

CEREMONIAL OPENING

UCMed Nurses’ Week 2022 commenced with a holy mass and ceremonial opening where an exhibit is opened to showcase UCMed’s dedicated and resilient nurses.

UCMed’s Medical Director, Dr. Armando Tan, Ms. Ma. Fe Aura Montesclaros, Vice President  & Chief Nursing Officer, and Atty. Rey Cris Panugaling, HR Director, awarded members of the Nursing Department for their outstanding accomplishments.

Partner pharmaceutical companies also participated on the first day and set up booths while giving away freebies.

BATTLE OF THE BRAINS

UCMed nurses showed off their wits on the second day of the Nurses Week 2022 in a quiz bowl competition called “Battle of the Brains”.

Nurses from different departments and units teamed up and tested their knowledge about UCMed and their medical trainings/procedures.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS SEMINAR

The Human Resource Department organized a Mental Health Awareness Seminar on the third day to support UCMed employees’ mental health and well-being.

UCMed invited Psychiatrist, Dr. Glenda P. Basubas to give a talk on managing workplace-related stress & nurturing a safe and healthy work environment.

PASIGARBO SA UCMed

Pasigarbo sa UCMed showed the talents of the nursing staff on the fourth day by participating in a Cebu festival-themed dance competition.

The Emergency Room (ER) Department won the dance competition representing the Palawod Festival of the Bantayan Island.

Representatives of each clinical department and unit contended for the title of Mr. & Ms. NSD.

The week-long Nurses’ Week celebration culminated on November 25, 2022. The Nurses’ Week celebration culminated with this activity that showcased fun collaboration among teams and competed in a friendly manner.

Christian De la Torre of Patient Care Unit (PCU) and Wyn Cuyos of Labor & Delivery Room, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (LR/DR, NICU) won Mr. & Ms. NSD 2022.

APPRECIATION TO THE NURSES

It was the dedication and commitment of the UCMed nurses that helped them rise up despite the daily challenges.

As stated by HR Director Atty. Rey Cris Panugaling, “As a young organization like UCMed, being home to a long tradition of Filipino nursing excellence is a matter to be proud of”.

Celebrating UCMed Nurses’ Week is a way to thank and appreciate the nurses who faithfully put effort and commitment in providing the patients the best care possible.

To better serve the needs of people in the community, health care services are now available by the electronic transmission of information. This may assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, management and treatment of a number of health care problems for the women enrolled in UCMed Maternity Package Deal Program.  This process is referred to as “telemedicine” ,“telehealth” or “eHealth.” This means that you may be evaluated and treated by a health care provider or specialist from a distant location. Since this may be different than the type of consultation with which you are familiar, it is important that you understand and agree to the following statements.

  1. The eHealth OB-Gyn healthcare provider will be at a different location from me.
  2. I may be asked for my medical history, examinations, x-rays, tests, photographs or other images by the specialist who is at a different location.
  3. I will be informed if any additional personnel are to be present other than myself, individuals accompanying me, and the eHealth OB-Gyn healthcare provider. I will give my permission prior to the entry of the additional personnel.
  4. The eHealth OB-Gyn healthcare provider will keep a record of the consultation in my medical record.
  5. RELEASE OF INFORMATION: eHealth OB-Gyn healthcare providers who provide professional services to the patient are authorized to furnish medical information from my emergency medical record to the another physician, if any, and to any insurance company or third party payer for the purpose of obtaining payment of the account. eHealth OB-Gyn healthcare provider is authorized to release information from my medical record to any other health care facility or provider to which my care may be transferred.
  6. I voluntarily consent to health care services provided by my doctor(s) or a designee, which may include diagnostic tests, drugs, examinations, and medical or surgical treatments considered necessary to treat my health problem.
  7. I understand that I may be released before all my medical problems are known or treated and it is my responsibility to make arrangements for follow-up care.
  8. I understand that I have the option to refuse eHealth service at anytime without affecting the right to future care or treatment and without risk losing my benefits.
