Healing Hands, United Hearts: Successful Surgical Mission at CPH-D
In a remarkable testament to teamwork and compassion, and through the initiative of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, a two-day surgical mission was successfully conducted last August 16–17, 2025 at Cebu Provincial Hospital–Danao (CPH-D), bringing hope and healing to patients in need of quality surgical care.

Over the course of the mission, 29 life-changing surgical procedures were performed by our UCMed Team—each one representing not just a medical intervention, but a renewed chance at better health and a brighter future for the beneficiaries.
This initiative was made possible through the unwavering collaboration of UCMed’s Departments of Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Nursing, in partnership with Chong Hua Hospital and the dedicated staff of Cebu Provincial Hospital–Danao. Together, the teams demonstrated skill, solidarity, and a shared commitment to advancing healthcare access for the community.

The mission was spearheaded by Dr. Elise Nicole Catalan, in close coordination with Dr. Jenina Capoy-Lato, Head of CPH-D, whose leadership and dedication ensured the seamless execution of the program.
UCMed’s Medical Director, Dr. Armando V. Tan, and the management extend heartfelt gratitude to all doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who generously shared their time, expertise, and compassion for this cause.

Reflecting on the mission’s success, Dr. Michael Catiwala-an, Training Officer of UCMed’s Department of Surgery, shared an inspiring message:
“We don’t count the number of patients we serve—we count every opportunity to deliver the best surgical care.”

Beyond alleviating immediate medical needs, this mission also strengthened the bond among healthcare providers, reaffirming a collective commitment to community well-being.
Indeed, the surgical mission stands as a powerful reminder that when healing hands and united hearts come together, lives are transformed.
