UCMed’s Diabetes Awareness Week 2025 Celebration
UCMed joined the national observance of Diabetes Awareness Week last July 24, 2025, with this year’s theme, “Komunidad Patatagin, Hamon ng Diabetes Harapin.” The event gathered healthcare professionals, patients, and staff in a shared effort to raise awareness and strengthen prevention against diabetes.
Dr. April Melody Abcede, DNC Unit Head, led the event alongside the DNC Team, with support from Dr. Cherrie Gail Gonzalez, Director for Continuing Medical Education and Research Services. Dr. Maria Odessa Eslet addressed key facts about the disease and the role of early detection and healthy living during her lay forum, which was attended by more than forty (40) individuals.
Topics ranged from risk factors to simple ways to improve lifestyle habits, which also emphasized how diabetes can be controlled with the right support and information.

One of the highlights during the event was the Diabetes Awareness Week Pledge Wall, which encouraged both employees and patients to make a personal commitment to managing and preventing diabetes. Dozens stepped forward to participate, reflecting a growing awareness and willingness to make long-term changes.
The event was made possible with the support of sponsors, including ROCHE, DKSH, Nestlé Health Science, Embecta, UNILAB – Westmont, Abbott Nutrition, Abbott Lab, Kalbe International, and Fresenius Kabi, who conducted both dry and wet sampling of their products.
Diabetes continues to challenge many families and communities, but initiatives like this provide a space for dialogue and meaningful action, one step at a time.
