UCMed Joins Nutrition Day Worldwide 2024
UCMed proudly participated in Nutrition Day Worldwide 2024, a global one-day audit held on November 14, 2024. This initiative is dedicated to assessing and improving nutritional care in healthcare settings, aiming to raise awareness about the critical role of nutrition in patient recovery and well-being.
Nutrition Day Worldwide began as an international project to standardize hospital and nursing home nutrition data collection. It allows healthcare institutions to benchmark their nutritional care practices against global standards, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
UCMed is honored to be the first institution in the Philippines to participate in Nutrition Day Worldwide, achieving this milestone in 2023. This year’s audit builds upon that historic achievement, reinforcing UCMed’s commitment to advancing nutritional care.
The Nutrition & Dietary Services team, in collaboration with the Nursing Services and Patient Services departments, spearheaded this year’s activities. The audit involved comprehensive interviews and data collection across various hospital areas, including all floors and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Special recognition to Dr. Maricel Malazarte, whose leadership played a pivotal role in initiating the ICU audit.
UCMed also acknowledged the active involvement of the Silliman University Dietetic Interns, who provided valuable support to ensure the smooth execution of the data collection.
As a token of gratitude, respondents received small treats and tokens during the audit. Abbott Nutrition also generously provided free formula samples for every patient interviewed, further enhancing the nutritional care process.
By participating in Nutrition Day Worldwide 2024, UCMed reaffirmed its continued dedication to refining nutritional care practices and aligning with the standards of leading healthcare institutions worldwide.
