UCMed: GROWING A GREENER, HEALTHIER, AND MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITY
The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed), through its Green 360 initiative, has conducted a Tree Planting Activity on October 24, 2026, at Sitio Paglaum, Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, Cebu, under the theme โGreener Hospital. Healthier Community.โ
The initiative promoted environmental sustainability and community resilience through the planting of bamboo, narra, and molave trees in an area that experiences flooding, including during Typhoon Tino.
Dumlog Councilor Hydellin C. Rafols participated in the activity and expressed her appreciation to UCMed for selecting their community as the planting site.
MENRO representatives, ENR Coordinator Sharmaine Joy C. Diez and EMS 1 Apple Jane T. Into, provided technical guidance on proper tree-planting methods. They also discussed the care and maintenance of the planted trees.
More than 50 participants, including UCMed personnel, barangay representatives, and MENRO staff, took part in the activity, demonstrating their shared commitment to environmental conservation.
Through the planting of bamboo, narra, and molave, participants contributed to soil protection, increased tree cover, and biodiversity. Their collective efforts also encouraged community involvement in tree care and environmental protection.
Through UCMed Green 360, the institution extended its sustainability efforts beyond hospital operations. By partnering with barangay officials, MENRO personnel, and residents, UCMed supported local efforts to protect the environment and build a greener, more resilient community.
