UCMed Celebrates Nurses’ Week 2024

The University of Cebu Medical Center, Inc. (UCMed) proudly celebrated the dedication, compassion, and expertise of our nursing staff last October 21-25, 2024.

This year’s celebration is anchored to the theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: The Pulse of Progress in Healthcare.”

The opening day started off with the holy mass, which was then followed by a ribbon cutting and the ceremonial candle lighting ceremony with an exhibit of UCMed Nurses photos that portray important values.

Ms. Ma. Fe Aura Montesclaros, Director for Nursing Services, welcomed participants, emphasizing that every heartbeat, compassionate action, and skillful intervention that a nurse bring can profoundly impact patients, their families, and the healthcare team.

Present also during the opening day was UCMed’s Medical Director, Dr. Armando V. Tan, who delivered an inspiring message to the nursing staff, highlighting the vital role nurses play in not only healing but also advocating for and uplifting those in their care.

UCMed’s Hospital Administrator also graced the event and led the ribbon cutting together with Dr. Tan, Ms. Montesclaros, Ms. Ruby Tana-el, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Operations, Ms. Marijo Garcia, Assistant Chief Nurse for Clinical Advancement and Training, and Ms. Rachel Costas, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Special Services.

Talented finalists for the Singing Nightingale contest serenaded the crowd for their intermission number. Recognition awards were also given to excellent nursing staff during the opening program.

They also gave roses and cupcakes to the nurses from the different sections.

The day 2 celebration was an insightful lay forum as different topics were discussed by esteemed guest speakers.

The 3rd day was filled with cheer, laughter and camaraderie as the nursing staff from 6 different sections competed in “Laron ng Lahi” where in Operating Room Team was the winner.

Morning of the fourth day of the celebration was a battle for the brains as they competed again for the “Nurses’ Knock Out.” A question and answer game and race to the buzzer where the Emergency Department Team took the lead.

In the afternoon, teams also had their representative serenade and compete for the Singing Nightingale Contest, with Ms. Clariza Abalos from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as the champion.

The week-long celebration concluded with representatives from each different section competing for the titles of Mr. and Mrs. NSD 2024, showcasing their beauty and intelligence.

The entire week’s celebration goal is to foster a spirit of camaraderie and provide an opportunity for our nursing staff to connect, recharge, and celebrate their shared mission.
