UCMed’s DNC launches Diabetes Awareness Week
UCMed’s Diabetes and Nutrition Center, in collaboration with the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, officially launched the Diabetes Awareness Week Celebration on July 18, 2028.
This week’s celebration is in line with the theme “Apat Dapat sa Diabetes Pagtibayin, Iwas Komplikasyon ay Kamtin.”
It is celebrated nationally and marks a pivotal moment in raising awareness about diabetes, a condition that affects millions worldwide.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was initiated by UCMed’s Director for Continuing Medical Education and Research Services, Dr. Cherrie Gail L. Gonzales, DNC’s Unit Head and Endocrinologist, Dr. April Melody Abcede-Cavadez, and UCMed’s Chief Nutritionist-Dietitian, Mr. Joshua David Bendoy, RND.
A lay forum also took place, with UCMed’s Internal Medicine Resident Doctor, Dr. Keshzia Jauculan, as the guest speaker, who imparted various informative and important reminders related to diabetes.
Various pharmaceutical companies and fresh-produce providers participated in the event and provided random capillary blood sugar tests, dry and wet sampling, diabetes care freebies, and a farmer’s market, which provided a special discount on their fresh fruit and vegetables to those who purchased their goods.
Participating companies include Unilab-Westmont, Embecta, DKSH PHIL, Nestle Health Science, Terumo Phil and Zafire Distribution, Sanofi HHC, Natwide, Fresenius Kabi, Roche Phil, Lamac Multipurpose Cooperative, ABOTT Laboratories, and PADE-PADCENS.
Diabetes Awareness Week serves as a powerful outlet for reminding us that together, we can achieve greater health outcomes and build a future where diabetes is understood, managed, and someday conquered.
